Nhan Tran, DPM

2026 – 2027 Fellow

Originally from Vietnam, Dr. Nhan Tran is a young, scrappy, and hungry immigrant who came to the United States at the age of 13 without speaking English. Fortunately, his English has improved significantly since then—otherwise this autobiography would be much shorter.

He earned three bachelor’s degrees from the University of Arizona, followed by a Master of Biomedical Science and a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from Midwestern University.

During his residency at Central Michigan University College of Medicine, Dr. Tran participated in more than 1,600 procedures, gaining comprehensive experience in foot and ankle surgery. Upon completing residency, he earned board qualification from the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery in both Foot Surgery and Reconstructive Rearfoot & Ankle Surgery. His commitment to excellence has been recognized with two Extraordinary Resident Scholarship Awards from Covenant HealthCare and the Resident of the Year Award from Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital.

In addition to his clinical accomplishments, Dr. Tran has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications in leading journals, including Foot & Ankle Surgery: Techniques, Reports & Cases, Frontiers in Immunology, Science Translational Medicine, and Immunity.

Leadership has also been a defining part of his career. As a podiatric medical student, he was elected National President of the American Podiatric Medical Students’ Association, becoming both the first Asian immigrant and the first student from the Arizona College of Podiatric Medicine to hold the position. During his presidency, he represented thousands of podiatric medical students nationwide and worked closely with national professional organizations and legislators to help advance the profession.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Tran enjoys hiking, kayaking, traveling, and spending time outdoors. He also proudly considers himself Taylor Swift’s number one fan. So if today’s biography runs a little long, just think of it as the 10-minute version.
